Many Manchester United fans have reacted to a claim from Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano that a deal for Facundo Pellistri is almost completed.
Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has struggled to bring in new faces this summer, with Donny van de Beek from Dutch giants Ajax his only acquisition thus far.
With the transfer window coming to a close on Monday, the pressure is seemingly on United’s board to pull off one or two deals as Solskjaer looks to take on the Premier League and Champions League this season.
Linked with a whole host of players, including Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona, United are now edging closer to a deal for Pellistri. The young Uruguayan winger has been impressing in his homeland for Penarol and has featured 12 times for the first team this season, securing one assist (as per Transfermarkt).
Romano shared a claim from Sebastian Giovanelli that a deal was set to be announced for a fee reportedly in the region of £9m.
Uruguay connection for Man Utd. Edinson Cavani deal is going to be completed on next hours after last details ready to be sorted about agents. 🔴🇺🇾#MUFC are also on the verge to sign Facundo Pellistri [2001, Penarol, special talent]. Fee around €10m, as per @SebasGiovanelli.

Romano also claimed that a deal for free agent Edinson Cavani was set to be announced in the next few hours as final details on the Uruguayan’s contract were being discussed.
Here are just some of the reactions from Man United fans who responded to Romano’s update on Twitter, with one supporter disparagingly calling him the ‘Uruguayan Daniel James’ in an apparent dig at the club’s Welsh winger, who has managed only four goals in 48 games for the club so far.
Do you know which age group Pellistri is for, Fab?
Looks to be an academy signing.

Fantastic player, great back up imo. But he’ll expect to be a starter (unless he’s been told different in contract talks) also in our current situation, offering ridiculous wages for mediocre players, cavani will be another where we will offer £180,000+ to a player which won’t
