Manchester City: Benjamin Mendy’s performance against Dinamo Zagreb has fans gushing

After coming back from a succession of injury problems during his time at Manchester City, supporters have praised left-back Benjamin Mendy for his instrumental performance during their 4-1 demolition of Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday evening.

Dinamo star Dani Olmo opened the scoring with a sublime volley, perhaps hinting at a difficult night in store for the Sky Blues, but a Gabriel Jesus hat-trick and an effort from Phil Foden ensured it was far more routine.

Mendy, being one of the heroes on the night following his involvement with two of the goals, forming brilliant link-ups with Foden down the left hand side, has since been praised for his efforts.

The Frenchman has found it difficult to cement a place in City’s starting line-up this season, with manager Pep Guardiola often preferring Angelino, but this performance has arguably made a statement just in time – especially with last season’s favourite for the left-back position Oleksandr Zinchenko returning from injury.
