Manchester City: Bernardo Silva sends Liverpool warning

Manchester City ace Bernardo Silva has once again engaged with title rivals Liverpool after Pep Guardiola’s side dropped points away to Crystal Palace on Monday night.

The Lowdown: Title race

Until more recently, it seemed rather likely that Guardiola was going to secure his fourth league title as Man City manager.

However, following a remarkable 3-2 defeat to Antonio Conte’s Tottenham and Monday night’s 0-0 stalemate with Patrick Viera’s Palace side, the door to the Premier League title has been left ajar.

In City last six league games, the Sky Blues have won four, drawn one and lost one. Whereas, for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, they have won all six.

With a game in-hand over the Cityzens, the Reds can go within one point of City if they are to come away with the win when they face off with Arsenal on Wednesday night.

Man City latest news!

The Latest: Silva’s comments

In his post-match interview following the disappointing draw, Bernardo Silva brought Liverpool up unprompted. As quoted by Manchester Evening News, he said:

“Still a long way to go, nine games to go. We’re still in a good position. It’s still better to be in our position than Liverpool and they still have to play in our stadium. It’s going to be exciting.

“It’s never easy to play any away game in the Premier League. Teams are tough, well organised. Over the last years we felt how difficult it was to come to this stadium. A draw was disappointing. Still a long way to go.

“It’s always better to win than draw. We wanted to win, to have an advantage of six points to Liverpool with their game in hand. Four points, they play Arsenal, we rest to play Southampton in the FA Cup.

“Nine games to go, very difficult fixtures ahead of us. We’re going to be there, we’re going to fight as usual for the title.”

The Verdict: Boiling point

This is not the first (and probably not the last) time Silva has engaged with the rivalry towards the Merseysiders, even chastising fans on social media during their title celebrations two seasons ago.

Silva’s comments could suggest a hint of worry surrounding City’s recent form, since Liverpool have seemingly closed the gap at the top of the table. It is also possible he is simply trying to deflect the blame from the result at Selhurst Park, where he was rated the worst player on the pitch (via SofaScore), having missed two big chances in front of goal.

Either way, the 27-year-old’s feud towards the Reds continues, with the race for the title between the two sides now heating up to boiling point before their much anticipated meeting at the Etihad Stadium next month.
