After Manchester City rounded off one of their most dominant performances of the season so far with a 6-1 hammering at the expense of relegation-threatened Aston Villa, a handful of supporters have bemoaned missing out on the perfect afternoon after their side failed to keep a clean sheet again in the league.
The Sky Blues, despite winning their last four games in all competitions since a damaging 3-2 defeat at Wolves, including a victorious evening in the Manchester derby, have only kept one clean sheet in their last eight (as per SofaScore) – prompting some supporters to bemoan their lack of defensive solidarity. A hat-trick from Sergio Aguero, Riyad Mahrez’ brace and Gabriel Jesus’ solo strike set City on their way to rounding off a memorable afternoon in the Midlands – but you could argue that they narrowly missed out on a perfect outing after midfielder Ilkay Gundogan conceded a penalty in the last minute. Anwar El Ghazi then converted the spot-kick, giving the home supporters something to finally cheer about.
As a result, even after the headlines were dominated by City legend Sergio Aguero scoring his 12th career hat-trick and overtaking Alan Shearer’s record whilst also climbing above Thierry Henry in the all-time Premier League scoring chart, some supporters have bemoaned the lack of a clean sheet. Here’s what they had to say on social media.
