According to a tweet by Daily Mail journalist Mike Keegan, the Premier League have suspended the fair play handshake before games until further notice – resulting in many Manchester City fans debating the news on Twitter.
The BBC have also confirmed that the traditional pre-match handshake, which used to take place before every Premier League encounter, will be temporarily suspended due to fears of spreading the coronavirus. The virus, which has spread to 87 countries in total, amassing over 90,000 cases worldwide, is a respiratory illness which is easily spread and highly contagious.
According to a report from the Australian Government, symptoms can range from a mild cough to pneumonia – with the Premier League now taking action in order to potentially stop the virus from spreading any further. As a result, plenty of Manchester City fans have been debating the update concerning their club on social media – with a mixed set of reactions from ‘cancel the season‘ to blasting the news as ‘ridiculous‘.
