Manchester City: Fans draw up fresh VAR conspiracy following disallowed Sterling goal

After Raheem Sterling’s goal against Chelsea was disallowed for a marginal offside decision, with supporters all over the Etihad thinking the Englishman had put the result beyond doubt, fans have since taken to Twitter and spotted potential evidence of a fresh VAR conspiracy theory.

Pep Guardiola’s side managed to seal a crucial 2-1 win at home to the Londoners on Saturday, with goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez cancelling out N’Golo Kante’s early opener, but the end of the game could’ve been far less nerve-wracking had referee Martin Atkinson not ruled out Sterling’s goal to make it 3-1.

It was a massive response from the Premier League champions, hanging on for a much-needed win which sees them overtake Chelsea and keep pace with league leaders Liverpool.

However, some City supporters are less concerned with celebrating and more focused on a potential VAR conspiracy theory – with one supporter pointing out that the linesman didn’t raise his flag until Atkinson instructed him to.

Here’s what they had to say on Twitter.
