Manchester City have spent over £150 million on full-backs since Pep Guardiola’s arrival. Joao Cancelo was brought in during the summer for £58 million and he’s been struggling to make the spot his own, but City fans were impressed with him against Aston Villa.
During the 6-1 win, he played the full 90 minutes and was rated 8/10 by the Manchester Evening News, who said “His storming runs down the right were very effective” and noted he’s now a challenge to Kyle Walker for the position in the big games. He’s only started six of City’s 22 games so far this season, so he’ll be hoping for more.
It seems some fans are hoping for the same too. When City news aggregator @SuperbiaProeIia on Twitter pointed out some of his stats for the game, some fans replied to say how impressed they were with his performance, and some even said he should now start over Walker.
