After suffering an extensive injury list this season, including first-team stars Aymeric Laporte, Ederson and Oleksandr Zinchenko sidelined for the foreseeable future, rumours have been spreading like wildfire surrounding some potential defensive buys in the January transfer window.
Due to Manchester City’s increasing weakness at the back, being forced to play Fernandinho at centre-back beside Nicolas Otamendi or John Stones, some supporters have called for the champions to enter the transfer market and shore up a backline in much need of a leader following Vincent Kompany’s departure.
The Citizens legend was crucial to their treble-winning season last campaign, forming a solid partnership in the final stages with Laporte and scoring an incredible strike against Leicester City to clinch three points in their penultimate match.
With that, according to Sky Sports News, Pep Guardiola’s men could be making a move for Foxes duo Caglar Soyuncu and Jonny Evans.
Evans was previously linked with a move to the Etihad two seasons ago, meanwhile, Soyuncu has impressed since Harry Maguire left the King Power for Man United in the summer.
