Manchester City: Fans not happy over Phil Foden’s absence from squad for Shakhtar Donetsk trip

Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden is among the absentees from the squad that is travelling to Ukraine for tomorrow night’s Champions League clash against Shakhtar Donetsk.

The club confirmed the squad on their official website mancity.com and said that Foden is not fully fit, a declaration relayed on Twitter by The Athletic’s Manchester City correspondent Sam Lee. [via @SamLee]

Manchester Evening News claimed that the 19-year-old midfielder misses out on the trip to Ukraine “due to concerns over his fitness“, with just 11 minutes of first team football under his belt so far this season and none since the 5-0 win at West Ham in their first Premier League game.

Foden made his first team debut in November 2017 but has since started just 14 games for the club, with only six of those coming in the Premier League and Champions League, and he was given just 327 minutes of game time in the league last season.

These Manchester City fans on Twitter are frustrated at the young midfielder’s lack of appearances in the first team:
