Some players just have a strange ability to turn it on against a certain club. For Riyad Mahrez, that club is Watford and last night he did it again, putting in his best display in a City shirt to date as he tore the Hornets to pieces in their own backyard. The Algerian scored his 7th club goal of the season in the win and was the jewel in Pep Guardiola’s crown in the Citizen’s 2-1 away win.
Man of the Match, @Mahrez22 was on fire! Any guesses on where he heated up?!

Considering the fixture congestion over the festive period, Pep Guardiola opted to leave his most influential attacker Raheem Sterling on the bench for the Watford trip. However, that didn’t give Javi Gracia any less to worry about. Watford were always going to have to put in the performance of the century to grab a result against City and it wasn’t to be as Mahrez and co did the business to record their 13th Premier League win of the season.
The ex-Leicester City man scored and registered an assist in the 2-1 win, to make it seven goals he’s had a direct hand in his seven games against Watford (six goals and one assist) and in truth, from the first minute you could tell that Mahrez was up for this one. The Algerian is slowly turning into one of Guardiola’s most trusted stars and if he can put in a few more displays like he did yesterday then he could well start forcing to spend even more time on the sidelines.

The Citizens loved Mahrez’s efforts during their win and will be keen to see him continue to add both goals and assists in the coming weeks.
