Manchester City fans will be pleased with the result they picked up last night against a tough Schalke side, even if they didn’t make it easy for themselves throughout. With three away goals and a one-goal lead, the second leg should be routine, however, it might not have been had the Man City fans been right about this Pep Guardiola change.

Manchester City fans were left livid when Pep Guardiola left it until the 78th minute to introduce Leroy Sane against his former club. The German winger made an almost instant impact after coming off the bench as he stepped up to fire home a 30-yard free-kick into the top right-hand corner, leaving Schalke shot-stopper Ralf Fahrmann with absolutely no chance.
As Guardiola swapped Sergio Aguero for Leroy Sane, though, the fans fumed. At 2-1 down they couldn’t understand the decision to bring off their record goalscorer, couldn’t understand why the change was made so late and were livid to see that Raheem Sterling had been left on. In the end, they were all proved to be wrong in their anger, but had Sterling not scored the late winner and had Sane not buried the free-kick they’d have been fuming.

The Citizens will be delighted with the result and will be quickly looking to delete their tweets about Sterling and Sane after the pair delivered late on to give them a win and an aggregate lead.
