Messi, who has played alongside Martinez for Argentina, has reportedly blocked a potential swoop for the San Siro man – handing City a would-be advantage in landing the 22-year-old as a backup to current forwards Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.
The former Racing Club target man could be deemed a hot prospect throughout Europe, scoring eight goals in 14 Serie A starts for the league leaders who are locked in a tight battle for dominance with Italian champions Juventus.
Now, with reports lingering over his future at the club, Pep Guardiola’s men, in theory, could be handed an even better opportunity to snap up the youngster in a bid to increase their fire power.
Supporters are also keen to bring him to the Etihad, especially judging by their pleas on social media – here’s what they had to say.
