Manchester City: Fans rave over ‘unseen hero’ Ilkay Gundogan after Marseille win

Flocking to Twitter, many Sky Blues fans lavished ‘unseen hero’ Ilkay Gundogan with praise after his first half display for Man City against Marseille – with manager Pep Guardiola now sweating over his fitness for the Manchester derby on Saturday.

Gundogan, who impressed over the first 45 minutes, came off with an ankle issue, much to the concern of some Man City supporters as they lavished his Champions League performance with praise.

The German international, amassing 42-caps for his country, was lauded as a ‘very underrated’ figure against Marseille as Guardiola’s men cruised to a 3-0 victory and rounded off the group stage in style.

Ferran Torres gave City an early second half lead before Sergio Aguero and an Alvaro Gonzalez own goal sealed a comfortable win – coming as a great warm up for one of the Sky Blues’ biggest games of the season against Manchester United.

Judging by the unanimous verdicts on ‘disrespected’ midfielder Gundogan, City fans certainly won’t want him to miss the clash with United.
