It’s fair to say Riyad Mahrez – Manchester City’s record signing – has been living up to his price tag so far this season, showcased with a stunning Algeria performance.
The 28-year-old bagged two goals and an assist on the night as Algeria thrashed Colombia in their international friendly on Tuesday night, adding to Mahrez’ already impressive numbers this season.
It’s a similar tale for his club, having won the Player of the Month award for September and playing a crucial role during City’s more positive outings – including a beautiful free-kick to help seal a 3-1 win at Goodison Park.
The former Leicester man took a while to develop into the star winger he is now. Indeed, after signing for the champions his game time was limited – at least until he started to contribute heavily with what little appearances he could muster.
Including a crucial winner at Bournemouth and the third goal against Brighton on the final day, which effectively handed City the title.
Now, Mahrez has a more crucial role than ever on the right-hand side, even limiting Bernardo Silva’s outings.
