According to an update from Manchester Evening News journalist Simon Bajkowski via Man City Xtra, the club’s spokesperson highlighted the reason why an ‘anti-VAR’ banner was removed from the stands during the Sky Blues’ 2-1 home win over Everton – but supporters are sceptical to say the least.
The banner, titled ‘R.I.P Football, VAR is here, fans boycott?’, was hoist aloft during Pep Guardiola’s side’s home victory over the Toffees – a match where Brazilian ace Gabriel Jesus bagged two goals and steered the blues to a much-needed second win on the trot.

Despite Richarlison nicking a goal back for the visitors, City managed to edge a narrow win, but a tense encounter wasn’t the only thing that made headlines – with an anti-VAR protest seemingly taking place in the stands.
Taking action, a club steward appeared to take the banner down, with a spokesperson citing ‘obstructed view’ as the reason for its removal.
In response, supporters have rubbished the claims, perhaps hinting that a more grand conspiracy is at work – here’s what they had to say on Twitter.
