Manchester City: Fans were delighted with Benjamin Mendy’s appearance last night

Manchester City have lost two defenders to injury in recent weeks, but one came back from a lengthy convalescence in last night’s 3-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk.

John Stones is set to be ruled out for at least four weeks, as reported by The Mirror, while Aymeric Laporte faces six months on the sidelines following a knee injury against Brighton in August, according to The Guardian.

However, left-back Benjamin Mendy marked his return as an 83rd-minute substitute for Rodri, making his first appearance since last season’s Champions League quarter-final exit to Tottenham in April following knee surgery, as reported by Manchester Evening News.

Mendy has had horrendous luck with injuries in his time at the club, missing almost all of the 2017/18 season following a cruciate ligament rupture and also being ruled out of 26 matches last season with a series of injury problems, as per TransferMarkt.co.uk.
