Manchester City: Fans worship Nigel de Jong in response to nostalgic Twitter post

Responding to a post by Twitter account ‘YourMCFC‘, many Sky Blues supporters have been worshipping ex-hero Nigel de Jong – doing their best to describe the midfielder in one good sentence.

The Dutchman, who was debatably a fan favourite under former boss Roberto Mancini, playing a bit-part role during City’s early period of success at the dawn of the Sheikh Mansour era, made 137 appearances overall for the club – scoring two goals and assisting one other from midfield (Transfermarkt).

De Jong, who was perhaps most well known for his tough-tackling nature at the Etihad, famously took over two seasons to bag his first goal for the club – burying a neat effort past West Ham back in 2011. Now, in the midst of the coronavirus football ban, many supporters have taken the opportunity to look back with pride at the 35-year-old.
