Manchester City: Fans worship Sergio Aguero in response to overtaking Rooney goal record

Following Sergio Aguero’s FA Cup winner against Sheffield Wednesday in the Round of 16 on Wednesday evening, many supporters have been drooling over the revelation that the Argentine has now scored more goals for Manchester City than Wayne Rooney has for arch rivals Manchester United.

Aguero, who signed for City back in the summer of 2011, has since gone on to accumulate 254 goals for the club in all competitions – surpassing Rooney’s record of 253 for United.

The Argentine has continued his fine run of form over the last few seasons this campaign, netting 16 goals in 16 Premier League starts for the Sky Blues (WhoScored). As well as this, Aguero is just seven strikes behind Andrew Cole in the all time league top scorers list – with the 31-year-old potentially on the verge of usurping another Red Devils great. In response to the record break, many City fans have been swooning over the ‘highly underrated‘ club icon – describing him as a ‘king‘ and a ‘legend‘.
