A number of Manchester City fans are eager to sign Lionel Messi after it was revealed that the Argentina international would be interested in a switch to the Etihad Stadium this summer.

The Citizens have been linked with Messi for a number of years, and the speculation reached a crescendo last summer (AS). Messi revealed he wish to leave Barcelona (CNN) and that led to the Citizens being heavily linked with a move for arguably the greatest player ever to play the game. However, in the end, he stayed at Camp Nou.

His current deal with the Blaugrana is set to run out at the culmination of this season (Transfermarkt), though, and the rumour mill has once again swung into motion. According to the Daily Star, £72m-valued Messi (Transfermarkt) would be interested in a switch to the Etihad for 12 months if City could match his £500,000-a-week wages.

The news was shared on Twitter by @City_Chief, and it attracted plenty of attention from the Premier League champions' supporters. These fans took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.
