Manchester City: Tyrick Mitchell being considered by Cityzens

Manchester City are considering a move for Crystal Palace full-back Tyrick Mitchell, according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo

The lowdown: Replacement could be needed…

This comes amidst enhanced speculation surrounding the long-term future of left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko at the Etihad Stadium.

Already linked with Arsenal and West Ham United, the versatile Ukrainian could be seeking pastures new this summer. having struggled to hold down a regular place in Pep Guardiola’s plans.

It now seems as though there could be interest coming from abroad, as City eye up an exciting potential successor…

The latest: Mitchell considered by Man City

As per Mundo Deportivo, Man City are ‘considering the possibility of signing’ the 22-year-old Eagles defender.

It’s claimed that Barcelona are looking at signing Zinchenko and, as such, the Citizens may move for Palace’s twice-capped England international.

Dubbed a ‘silent assassin’ by former academy coach Stuart English, Mitchell has graduated through the youth ranks at Selhurst Park and is now an established member of Patrick Vieira’s side.

The verdict: Natural progression

A naturally attack-minded left-back who has played as a left-sided midfielder on occasion, signing the talented English youngster would be a superb replacement if Zinchenko leaves, as Guardiola looks to develop the City squad once again.

In 2021/22, the Londoner provided two assists in 42 appearances across all competitions for Palace, earning a 6.87 Sofascore rating whilst making 2.9 tackles, 2.3 clearances and 1.1 interceptions per game in the process. That highlights his defensive acumen in a team which requires its full-backs to perform such duties.

Young enough to develop further whilst also being experienced enough to slot in from the outset at City and bolster the homegrown quota at the same time, making a genuine attempt to sign the £15.3m- valued Mitchell this summer should be a no-brainer for the Etihad Stadium hierarchy.
