Manchester City fans in the Football Transfer Tavern received a welcome boost today with Jamie Sanderson from Metro. reporting that Roberto Mancini is set to win the race for Adam Maher.
The news comes after the 19-year- old’s club AZ Alkmaar declared they are ready to sell the midfielder during the summer and reports suggest that City have opened talks with the Dutch club over a transfer.
The highly regarded youngster has attracted glances from across with Europe with the Eredivisie club’s manager Gertjan Verbeek previously stating that the Dutch international would prove a perfect fit for Arsenal.
“The expectation is that Maher will leave the club,” said coach Verbeek in a short statement.
The Alkmaar star has been in brilliant form for AZ this year but has an inching for a big move.
With his existing deal set to run until 2015, AZ are willing to sell for around £15 million rather than see him leave on the cheap in the future.
