Flocking to Twitter, lots of Manchester City fans have erupted over a transfer update coming out of Eastlands involving Ajax midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.

The 19-year-old, arguably one of the most talented defensive midfielders in Europe, is apparently on Pep Guardiola's wish list as he eyes a potential heir to club legend Fernandinho.

City's fan favourite, currently on his second one-year contract extension, hasn't signed another one and looks set to leave Eastlands at the end of 2021/22 as things stand.

The imperious form of Rodri has arguably masked Guardiola's need for a Fernandinho replacement, but that hasn't stopped sporting director Txiki Begiristain from being linked with certain candidates.

West Ham star Declan Rice is one name mentioned, but Soccernews (via Sport Witness) have now brought news on Gravenberch.

It is believed that City have 'put' the talented teenager on their transfer 'wish list' for the summer window, coming as his contract at the Johan Cruyff Arena looks set to expire in 2023. This gives the club just 18 months to cash in as the Sky Blues take note.

City fans erupt...

A number of City supporters have erupted over these links coming out of the club, and you can see why going by Gravenberch's stats.

According to WhoScored, the Dutchman is a composed and cool figure on the ball whilst proving difficult to dispossess, averaging a brilliant 2.4 completed dribbles per 90 this campaign. That's more than any of Guardiola's current crop as the Spaniard now targets a move for the 19-year-old.
