Speaking to talkSPORT, pundit Andy Townsend has tipped Man City to sign current Juventus star, and ex-Man United hero, Cristiano Ronaldo in a stunning swoop – citing that the 6 foot 2 ‘beast‘ could easily conjure a 25-goal season.
Ronaldo, who often came up against the Sky Blues before the glory era of Sheikh Mansour’s takeover began, is now being tipped with an unlikely move to one of his former rivals.
Should Man City sign Cristiano Ronaldo?
Yes, would be a menace
Absolutely no way
Sir Alex Ferguson snapped up the forward from Sporting Lisbon during the early 2000s, with Ronaldo then going on to star for United before City’s eventual rise to prominence.
Ronaldo tipped to sign for City
Recently, despite the last few seasons having delivered goals galore, Pep Guardiola’s side have struggled for the cutting edge that they possessed in previous seasons.
Indeed, despite plugging gaping holes at the back with the signings of Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake and a fitness return for Aymeric Laporte, the problem now seems to lie in attack.
Gabriel Jesus has only just come back from injury, with star striker Sergio Aguero still on the treatment table, and it’s arguable that City need another option in the forward areas.
Enter Ronaldo, with talkSPORT pundit Townsend now urging the club to snap up a striker who would supposedly bag a 25-goal season back in the Premier League.
“He’s unbelievable in the air, which we’ve seen in a Juventus shirt already,” explained Townsend.
“If he became available and Juve wanted out on him and Man City needed goals for their team then I don’t think you should hesitate in going to get Cristiano Ronaldo.
“He’s 35 and I still think he’s got 18 months in him. If he came to Man City and the way they play, I think he could go there and get 25 in his first season.”
Transfer Tavern take
While there is little doubting his quality, it’s debatable whether City supporters would want Ronaldo after his United days, not to mention the fact he is well into his twilight years.
Despite being labelled as ‘better than Aguero‘ by ex-Blue Samir Nasri, it’s doubtful whether Citizens would want to see Ronaldo at the Etihad Stadium.
