According to a report from the Manchester Evening News, youngster Angel Gomes was pursuing a loan move away from Old Trafford in order to gain more senior action – with the club blocking a potential switch despite his wishes.
Gomes, who has made 26 appearances for Manchester United’s under-23s overall, scoring nine goals and assisting six others (Transfermarkt), has been on the fringe of first team action all season despite some fairly solid statistics. In three Europa League starts this season, the 19-year-old has amassed 2 shots per game on average whilst completing 1.7 key passes and 1.7 dribbles, as per WhoScored.com.
By comparison, fellow youngster Tahith Chong simply hasn’t measured up – registering just 0.7 shots and 0.7 dribbles in the same competition. These numbers, whilst being an indicator of Gomes’ potential impact when given more playing time, could also be a marker that he is ready for first team experience out on loan. Regardless, according to Manchester Evening News, the teenager’s attempted move was blocked by the club – resulting in some supporters voicing their anger over the ‘disgraceful‘ situation.

Disgraceful, won’t play him but won’t let him go. Ole n the board will tell you it’s all about the youth tho.

I mean, if Ole plays Lingard who continually puts up 1/10 performances with no upside whatsoever, why not let the kid play.
