After Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Club Brugge on Thursday evening in the Europa League, according to a post from the Daily Telegraph, striker Anthony Martial dedicated his equalising goal to FC Porto striker Moussa Marega following racist abuse aimed at the 28-year-old – with supporters since coming out to praise Martial for his gesture.
Marega, who has scored six goals and assisted five others for Porto in the Primeira Liga (WhoScored), was recently the subject of racist abuse in Portugal against Vitoria – with United’s Martial apparently paying tribute to the striker with his goal against Club Brugge. 1-0 down after Emmanuel Dennis’ opening goal, the Frenchman took advantage of poor defending to draw level – slotting the ball past Simon Mignolet for the Red Devils’ equaliser.
The 24-year-old, having equalised, also continued to threaten – striking the woodwork soon after before eventually being taken off by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Now, with the revelation that Martial’s celebration was actually a tribute to Marega, many United supporters have since gone on to praise the striker even further.
