Manchester United are considering a shock move for Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister. United are known to be plotting a midfield rebuild next summer, and are believed to be drawing up a shortlist of midfielders.
Several star names in the Premier League and across Europe are known to be on the list including Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson. The Mirror has reported that Mac Allister is now a surprise addition to the list, following increased speculation the player could leave the Reds in the summer.
Mac Allister is under contract at Liverpool until 2028, but reports have linked him with a shock move away from the club following a difficult campaign for club and player. The World Cup winner remains highly rated across Europe and would take some prizing especially from a bitter rival.
In fact, no player has moved directly between the two clubs since the 1964 transfer of Phil Chisnall from United to Liverpool.
United interested in Mac Allister

Mac Allister has expressed an interest in playing in Spain at some stage in his career, and at 27 he may feel the time is sooner rather than later. It is unlikely he makes a detour in Manchester before then, but United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe reportedly has signaled his interest in the player should be become available.
Mac Allister joined Liverpool from Brighton in a £55m deal in 2023 and has gone on to make 93 Premier League appearances for the club. He was influential in the side that won the Premier League title last season.
He finished both of his previous campaigns with the club with five goals and five assists. He has yet to score this season, but has provided two assists so far.
The Reds have struggled to maintain their title defence, and currently sit in seventh place in the table. They are five points behind a resurgent United who have won four out their first five matches under interim boss Michael Carrick.
