Manchester United consider Scholes successor

marchisio.jpgHere in the Football Transfer Tavern, Manchester United fans are looking up with interest at the claim from Caught Offside who feel that the Red Devils may have found their next Paul Scholes.

The ginger haired midfielder has finally retired – again – after being lauded as one of the very best players of a generation and rounded off his successful career in typical style – both understated and getting a yellow card for a poor tackle. It is the other side of his midfield game that United are so keen to recreate however, with Scholes’ vision, passing and movement something that many have tried to copy and all have failed.

Now Claudio Marchisio has been identified both by the outgoing Sir Alex Ferguson and also by new manager David Moyes who think that the £25 million rated Juventus player could be the long-term successor to a player who helped United to a huge period of success over the past decade or so.

The 27-year-old has been at Juventus for his entire career and whilst a move is not something he would push for, the chance of experiencing the Premier League and for a club as big as Manchester United would be something that he would have to give serious thought to.

Would Marchisio really part with his beloved Juve to join United? Rate this rumour below.
