Manchester United: David de Gea’s charity contribution stuns Red Devils fans

Lots of Manchester United fans were left stunned by Red Devils goalkeeper David de Gea’s latest charity contribution.

United’s shot stopper privately donated €300,000 to the local authority in Madrid to help tackle the growing crisis in Spain. His home country has been one of the worst affected by the recent events and de Gea reportedly made the donation to pay for medical supplies and provide support for vulnerable communities (Evening Standard).

Although the Spaniard made the payment anonymously, Isabel Diaz Ayuso, the president of the Community of Madrid, revealed the news on Twitter, stating “Thank you De Gea. The great help you have provided to the Community of Madrid will be key to fighting COVID-19. Eternally grateful, proud of you.”

Putting their rivalry aside, the Reds have linked up with Manchester City to donate £100,000 to help a local network of food banks in the North West, compensating for the temporary loss of matchday donations due to the Premier League being suspended (via the club’s official website).

Since moving to Old Trafford from Atletico Madrid for £22.5m in 2011, the 29-year-old has featured in over 300 games in the English top flight, keeping 108 clean sheets, catching 180 high claims, and making 84 sweeper clearances so far (Premier League). De Gea’s market value is priced at £45m via Transfermarkt.

Unsurprisingly loads of supporters were proud of the Spanish keeper’s effort, with one fan commenting they “love him.” Another simply said “what a man.”
