Manchester United: Fans discuss Scott McTominay’s latest revelation

Scott McTominay

Scott McTominay says he never intended to leave Manchester United on loan before he managed to earn a place in Jose Mourinho’s side.

Speaking to the club’s official podcast, McTominay shed new light on previous links to Celtic and West Bromwich Albion, confirming the transfer rumours at the time, but the youngster revealed he wouldn’t have left Old Trafford anyway.

“About a year-and-a-half ago, there was a time when it might have been a possibility but then somebody else leaves or something like that.”

“And then your opportunity comes and you have to take it.”

“You hear loads of stories about boys going on loan, and different things like that, and I always had it in my head that I don’t want that. I want to be showing myself here first and, if it doesn’t work here, then you go somewhere else.”

The United academy graduate has excelled under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season, playing in 20 games in the Premier League, scoring 4 goals and producing 1 assist, attempting 1.4 shots per game, registering at least 1.5 dribbles, and successfully completing 2 tackles on average throughout the campaign so far (WhoScored).

His impressive contributions all over the pitch this season haven’t gone unnoticed by players and pundits alike, as he was recently awarded the title of The Athletic’s Manchester United Young Player of the Year, and his market value has reached £20.25m via Transfermarkt.

Understandably, a large number of Red Devils raved over his comments on social media, with one fan claiming he is “elite,” and another dubbing the Scotsman a “passion merchant.”

And take his chance he did. And only going to get better!
