Manchester United: Fans fume over Harry Maguire captaincy decision

According to a report from the BBC, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has opted to bestow the captaincy upon centre-back Harry Maguire following Ashley Young’s impending move to Inter Milan (BBC) – with the resulting consensus from some Red Devils supporters claiming it was the wrong decision and one fan declaring it “stupid”.

Maguire, who became United’s record defensive signing last summer, has so far racked up 22 Premier League appearances for the club whilst averaging four clearances per game and 1.1 tackles, as per WhoScored.com. His stable form has now resulted in the England international being awarded the club captaincy after just six months as a Red Devils player – with some supporters suggesting that it should have gone to long-time servant David De Gea instead.

The Spanish ‘keeper is one of the only remaining players in the squad from Sir Alex Ferguson’s last season at the helm, since then going on to make 386 appearances for the club in all competitions (as per Transfermarkt). As a result, some fans have claimed that the shot-stopper was ‘robbed’ in the decision – find all of their best comments down below.
