Jesse Lingard hadn’t scored or assisted since Boxing Day last year before Man United faced Watford on Sunday, and a first-half miss ensured that woeful run will continue until after Christmas. The 27-year-old found himself one-on-one with Ben Foster but chipped the ball over the goalkeeper’s head and onto the roof of the net.
Foster was way off his line and the chip looked on, but the United star couldn’t quite get the ball to dip in time. He’s featured in 15 games so far this term, making eight starts, but he’s been rated an average of just 6.33/10 by WhoScored for those performances, and that’s the lowest rating of any player in the squad who has made more than five Premier League starts.
United fans saw the chance, and many took to Twitter immediately afterwards to express just how disappointed they were with the miss. However, plenty of them had seen enough and went even further and suggested he shouldn’t be starting for the club at all.

Ole should just stop paying lingard. I don’t know how on Earth should anyone miss that goal. #WATMUN

Lingard just not good enough..has zero contribution to this team. Rather have Greenwood starting in his position.. technicality far superior player #mufc #WATMUN
