Gary Neville has backed Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood to become one of the best strikers in the world, in an interview with Sky Sports via the Daily Mail.
After being given his debut by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last year, Greenwood has played in 35 senior games for the Red Devils, bagging 12 goals and creating 1 assist in all competitions this season. Although most of his appearances in the Premier League have come from the bench, the youngster has still managed to score 5 goals in the English top flight, taking 2.4 shots per game and making 1.1 key passes via WhoScored.
It is fair to say Neville knows a thing or two about top goalscorers, having played with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, and Ruud van Nistelrooy throughout his career, and the club legend has tipped the 18-year-old to reach new heights in the game.
Speaking on Sky Sports, the former England international and United legend admitted: “He can be anything he wants to be. He just looks like he’s got such great composure and quality. He’s great physically as well.
“If he continues to emerge like he’s shown at times this season I think Manchester United have got the real deal there.”
If Greenwood can keep on putting in these impressive performances, there is no doubt he will soon be pushing his teammates Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford for a place in Solskjaer’s starting lineup.
Loads of United fans gushed over Neville’s comments on Twitter, with one supporter comparing the teenager to Dutch record goalscorer Robin van Persie, and another simply adding he is a “baller.”
