After dismantling Newcastle United 4-1 at Old Trafford on Boxing Day, a match where Manchester United put on a clinical display, supporters have lamented a downside to the game in the form of midfielder Scott McTominay being diagnosed with knee ligament damage.
According to a report from the BBC, Scotland international McTominay has suspected ligament damage – with the youngster having to be taken off at half time for Paul Pogba during the victory.
Matty Longstaff originally gave the visitors a shock lead through a well-driven strike before quickfire goals from Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford sent the Red Devils 3-1 up and cruising at the break.
Martial then added to his tally after taking advantage of a lapse back pass to gift United a brilliant Boxing Day win – bouncing back from their 2-0 away defeat to Premier League bottom side, Watford.
However, McTominay’s injury blow has somewhat dampened the festivities – here’s how fans reacted on Twitter.
