Manchester United: Fans laud ‘magic’ Nemanja Matic for Wolves performance

After Manchester United edged past Wolves 1-0 in their FA Cup third-round replay at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening, supporters have been praising unlikely hero Nemanja Matic for his contribution to proceedings – even going as far to say he should have been deemed Man of the Match.

Matic, who has been linked with a move away from the Premier League to AC Milan recently (La Gazzetta via Sky Italia), put in a solid display to help his current side edge into the FA Cup fourth round. The Serbian, according to WhoScored.com, had 98 touches of the ball in midfield whilst completing 89% of his passes and winning two aerial duels despite a campaign during which he has rarely been involved.

In response to a fairly impressive outing, some Red Devils supporters have been singing the 31-year-old’s praises on social media after a performance that was deemed ‘magic’. Spanish midfielder Juan Mata gave the Red Devils victory courtesy of a superb finish just past the hour mark, highlighting a good afternoon for United despite the fact star forward Marcus Rashford was subbed off with an injury.
