Manchester United have finally got their man in Bruno Fernandes, and they’ve shelled out an initial £49.6 million for him. The player was announced by Man United on Thursday afternoon and since then details of the add-ons involved with the deal have been emerging.
The Times have reported that Sporting Lisbon will receive €1 million (roughly £850,000) for every five starts the Portuguese creative midfielder makes until he reaches 25 starts, and they’ll also receive €5 million (roughly £4.2 million) if United qualify for the Champions League once in the next five seasons.
There’s another add-on too, and it’s that every time Fernandes wins the PFA Player of the Year or finishes in the top three of the Ballon d’Or, United will have to pay Sporting €5 million, and this is capped at three times. Many fans reacted with joy when they saw a tweet from United news aggregator Utd Report explaining the clause regarding his personal awards.
