Manchester United: Fans overjoyed with conclusion of interest in Sean Longstaff

According to a report from the Daily Telegraph, Manchester United have apparently ended their pursuit of Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff who is ‘no longer thought to be under serious consideration’ – with some Red Devils supporters rejoicing in the news.

United, who are currently prowling the transfer market for a midfielder to add creative quality, have been linked with a move for Longstaff since last summer, but if this report is to be believed, it appears Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have halted their pursuit of the 22-year-old and have set their sights on Ajax youngster Donny van de Beek instead.

Longstaff, who has an underwhelming pass success rate of 75.5% (via WhoScored) in the league compared to Fred (87.8%) and the injured Scott McTominay (78.8%), could’ve been seen as a back up option at one stage, hence the reported interest. However, the reported pursuit of Van de Beek appears to have enticed the Red Devils far more.

As a result, these United supporters are overjoyed that the club has apparently ended their interest in Longstaff – here’s what they had to say on Twitter.
