Following the announcement Euro 2020 has been postponed until 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic, Manchester United fans have been predicting that the rescheduled tournament will be Mason Greenwood’s time to shine.
Since being handed his debut by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last year, Greenwood has featured in 40 games for the Red Devils, bagging 12 goals and creating 4 assists in all competitions. Most of his appearances in the Premier League this season have come from the bench, although he has still managed to score 5 goals in the English top flight (Transfermarkt).
The 18-year-old has won 4 caps and netted a goal for the England U-21 squad, whilst he also became United’s youngest-ever Champions League player during the historic 3-1 win against Paris Saint-Germain last year (BBC).
Although an England call-up would be a huge step-up for the teenage sensation, Gareth Southgate has already shown he is willing throw top prospects in at the deep end, as the former Middlesbrough player handed Chelsea youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi his first international cap before he’d even made his first appearance in the Premier League (Transfermarkt).
Southgate is reportedly very keen on the Manchester United academy graduate and supporters could see Greenwood join his club teammate Marcus Rashford upfront for the Three Lions next year.
As expected, plenty of fans have taken to Twitter to share their views on the postponement of the Euros. One supporter commented that Greenwood could make a breakthrough like former United star Michael Owen at the 1998 World Cup.

No way Mason Greenwood isn’t in the conversation for a spot in Southgate’s squad for EURO 2021. It’s only just begun. ✨
