Some Manchester United fans have been questioning Anthony Martial’s credentials as a striker.
Martial, who has been used out wide and up front throughout his career (as shown on Transfermarkt), has mainly played as a centre-forward this season. However, several fans are not convinced that is his best position. One supporter has even said that he should not be in the first team and, instead, should just be a “squad player”.
Looking at Martial’s track record, such frustrations are understandable. Since joining Manchester United from AS Monaco back in 2015, the 24-year-old has only surpassed the 10-goal mark in the league on one occasion. Considering that, has he shown enough to suggest he is capable of leading the line consistently for a title-winning team?
Averaging 1.4 dribbles per game (via WhoScored), more than the likes of Daniel James (0.9) and Jesse Lingard (0.7), rather, the Frenchman looks better on the left-hand side where he can run at defenders and cause havoc. It is a sentiment that some Manchester United fans share, as you can see below…
No, he is better coming in off the left and dribbling at people and not having to hold up the ball at times like a striker does. He plays SO much better when a guy like Rashford is on the field and he can move from inside to out and outside to in

No never. Not even good enough to be a first team player. Should just be a squad player.
