Manchester United: Fans react to Red Devils transfer link with Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Lemar

The Frenchman has fallen out of favour with Diego Simeone in recent months and lost his place in the national team.

After arriving in Madrid from Ligue 1 side Monaco for £63m in 2018, Lemar has struggled to make much of an impression with the Los Rojiblancos, and failed to provide a single goal or assist in La Liga this season (Transfermarkt).

The 24-year-old has only taken 0.4 shots per game, averaging 0.4 key passes, and completing just 1.1 dribbles on average in the Spanish top tier (WhoScored). Understandably, he is keen to leave Simeone’s side, and despite the dramatic slump in form, Julien Laurens reports his representatives met with United officials last week.

Lemar’s current contract expires in three years time, so it is unlikely the attacking midfielder will come cheap, and his market value is estimated at £27m via Transfermarkt.

Predictably plenty of Red Devils are unhappy with the latest transfer link, with a supporter tweeting “this is a terrible idea.” One fan even labelled him a “BTEC Martial” and another called him a “fraud.”
