Despite scoring a superb strike in Manchester United U23s’ 4-1 dismantling of Reading, supporters took to social media and roasted youngster Tahith Chong regardless of the brilliant effort – questioning why he doesn’t pull off moments like that for the first-team.
Will Tahith Chong make it in the first-team?
Yes
No
Chong, who curled a thunderous shot over the Reading keeper to give the young Red Devils a 3-1 lead mid-way through the second half, was at the mercy of criticism in his last outing for the senior side away to FC Astana in the Europa League.
Eventually losing the bout in Kazakhstan 2-1, Chong squandered an incredible chance to score a second for United when he blazed the ball over an empty net from just a few yards out – prompting supporters to go in on the midfielder.
Now, after seemingly finding his shooting boots again with a wonder goal, fans have speculated as to where that brilliance was when the senior side were calling for it.
Here’s what they had to say on Twitter.
Shame he plays like an Afro obertan when he plays for the first team

found his level.

Why’s he a nervous wreck at first team level. The guys got ability but at Uniteds first team he never seems to show it. Needs a loan and we will see what he’s made of.

U23 level way below men’s football but when he gets chance in first team always fluffs his line not sure if it’s nerves or he’s not ready for mens football yet.
