Manchester United: Fred performance against Man City has supporters hailing Brazilian midfielder

After Manchester United beat Manchester City 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium, coming away from Eastlands victorious for the second time this season in all competitions, it still wasn’t enough to secure their passage to the Carabao Cup final – losing 3-2 on aggregate.

Nemanja Matic’s superb volley in the first half gave the Red Devils a glimmer of hope that they could hang on and potentially nick an aggregate equaliser, but given City’s wastefulness in the final third and the fact Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side offered little creativity afterwards, the end result is arguably fair. However, even though United went out of the competition on Wednesday evening, supporters couldn’t help but notice midfielder Fred’s ‘masterclass‘ – with the Brazilian amassing an 87% pass success rate whilst making more tackles than any other player on the pitch, as per WhoScored.com.

He also registered the second highest WhoScored rating on his team (8.0), with only defender Harry Maguire bettering that score (8.2). As a result, United supporters felt the need to hail the 26-year-old on social media.
