Saul Niguez. It’s last orders in the Football Transfer Tavern ahead of closing time.

I can hear David McDonnell explaining to the few punters left in the bar that Manchester United have joined the battle to recruit Spanish wonderkid Saul Niguez.

The Mirror journalist claims that the 19-year-old central midfielder has caught the attention of a host of Premier League clubs with his performances on loan with Rayo Vallecano with Chelsea, Arsenal and now United locked in a three way fight for his services.

United’s interest in the promising Atletico Madrid youngster was revealed after Red Devils coach Phil Neville went to watch him during Niguez current side’s 1-0 win against Getafe yesterday.

The Spanish Under-21 star is rated highly by title chasing Atletico Madrid and they will be reluctant to sell Niguez but could still sell the prospect for the right fee.

Niguez is a 6 ft 0 in defensive midfielder who is known for his combative style and he may prove the answer for Moyes as he tries to strengthen his side during the transfer window.

Neville wasn’t the only United representatives keeping an eye on potential targets with Moyes himself watching Juventus’ victory over Cagliari.

It is thought that Moyes could have been keeping tabs on various different players including Juve’s attacking midfielder Arturo Vidal and Cagliari’s highly rated defender Davide Astori.
