According to a report from the Daily Mail, Manchester United scouts have been monitoring Gent striker Jonathan David – with the 22-goal hitman attracting many plaudits whilst also winning Canada’s Player of the Year, leading one supporter to call him ‘the Canadian Rashford’.
David, who has scored 18 goals for Gent in Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League this season (Transfermarkt), currently sits as the division’s top scorer – with the 20-year-old’s accolades since turning the heads of Red Devils scouts who are now keeping tabs on the youngster. Nicknamed ‘Iceman‘ and valued at £18m by his club, David is seen as a hot young talent, especially considering his recent run of nine goals in just six Belgian league games.
Since Romelu Lukaku’s departure to Inter Milan last summer, United have been without a natural centre-forward – mainly relying on the goalscoring exploits of Marcus Rashford before his injury. Despite bringing in Odion Ighalo on loan from Shanghai Shenhua as a potential temporary fix, the Red Devils could be monitoring David as a more permanent solution to their striker conundrum.
