What a week to be a Manchester United supporter. News that Sir Alex Ferguson was set to retire with Everton boss David Moyes ready to take over has left shock waves across the Football Transfer Tavern. And news today that Toffees midfielder Marouane Fellaini could follow suit has left suprised looks in the Tavern.
Jon Harvey from Metro reveals to interested punters that the Belgian international has hinted in a recent interview that he could join Moyes at Old Trafford next season after admitting a desire to play against the best sides in Europe.
Although Felliani confirms he is happy playing for Everton he does admit that he has ambitions to play in the Champions League.
“Every player wants to play in the Champions League. That is the big competition,” Fellaini said.
“I hope I can do it with Everton. I’m happy here. I’ve been at the club for five years. I’m happy because I know everybody.
“For my future, I want to play in England. The Premier League is the best league. Here there are five, six, seven, eight teams, all of whom think they are good enough to play in the Champions League and want that.
“There isn’t another country in Europe where you get that.”
He also hailed Moyes, who brought him to Goodison Park in 2008, describing him as a ‘good guy’.
“I would say he is a good guy. Yes, when he needs to shout, he shouts.
“But when he needs to relax, he relaxes. He makes us train hard. Football is like this.”
