Responding to an image of Scott McTominay back in training courtesy of UtdReport, many Manchester United fans have downplayed his potentially imminent return to the team – citing the fact Nemanja Matic has been superior in his absence.
McTominay, who previously formed a stellar partnership with Fred in centre-midfield before succumbing to injury, had been in fine form before Matic had to step in and take the role in midfield due to his absence. Since then, Matic has gone on to better the Scotsman’s pass accuracy this season – accumulating an 84.6% success rate compared to McTominay’s 78.8% in midfield, as per WhoScored.com.
The Serbian also scored a cracking volley to open the scoring during United’s 1-o win at the Etihad in late January, despite being sent off later on with the Red Devils eventually crashing out. Indeed, it’s been an eventful last month for Matic, with these supporters coming to the conclusion that he should be prioritised over McTominay when he returns to full fitness.
