Despite being given his marching orders during Manchester United’s 1-0 win over rivals Man City at the Etihad Stadium, supporters have flocked to praise a ‘colossal performance‘ from midfield man Nemanja Matic – finding the positives on an evening where their side dropped out of the Carabao Cup.
Matic, who scored a superb volley in the first half on Wednesday to give United a fighting chance in the tie, eventually received his marching orders having been booked twice for arguably cynical professional fouls. The Serbian, who completed 88% of his passes at Eastlands, was also only dispossessed once for the entirety of the contest before his dismissal, as per WhoScored.com – an impressive feat given his position in midfield.
As a result, supporters have flocked to hail the 31-year-old after his ‘class‘ display even after the red card. So much so, that these Red Devils fans, in particular, think he should’ve been given the Man of the Match award.

Matic had a colossal performance bar the cards. De Gea deserves a shout out for keeping us in the game early on.
