As per Sky Sports, Manchester United have triggered the one-year contract extension in Nemanja Matic’s agreement, keeping the midfielder at the club until the end of next season.
Matic had entered the final four months of his current contract but the Red Devils are now holding talks with his representatives about extending it further.
The Serbian international has featured in 109 matches for United, scoring 4 goals and creating 5 assists, after moving to Old Trafford from Premier League rivals Chelsea for £40.23m in 2017. His current market value stands at £18m via Transfermarkt.
Admittedly Matic has failed to score in 12 Premier League games so far but the defensive midfielder has proved his worth in recent weeks (Transfermarkt).
Club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refused to let the 31-year-old leave in January after Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay sustained long-term injuries and Matic returned the favour by putting in a string of impressive performances (Telegraph).

He has started nine of United’s unbeaten ten-game run and only missed the draw away to Wolverhampton Wanderers due to suspension.
The seasoned veteran has bags of experience at the top level and his influence in the dressing room could prove useful as United push for Champions League football and silverware in the future.
