A number of Manchester United fans have been venting their frustrations over the Red Devils’ “horrendous” handling of Sergio Romero‘s situation after the goalkeeper was left out of their 25-man Premier League squad.
The Argentina international has been omitted from United’s squads for the first half of the Premier League campaign and the Champions League, with the ‘keeper having been informed via social media, according to ESPN reporter Rob Dawson, while it is not believed he was told he would be surplus to requirements in the summer.
Romero came close to securing a move away from Old Trafford in the last few days of the European transfer window. However, a move to Everton failed to materialse, with United holding out for a fee of around £8m. They were also reluctant to send him on loan to the Toffees as they considered the Merseyside club to be a top-four rival, as per The Athletic.
The Toffees had been willing to offer a £2m loan fee as well as paying all of the 33-year-old’s £100,000-a-week salary, according to The Athletic. However, Romero is now set to be on the periphery unless a move to the MLS occurs, having fallen behind Dean Henderson in the pecking order.
Plenty of Manchester United fans believe that the club have treated the ‘keeper poorly during the whole saga, with some feeling his professionalism has warranted more respect.
United fans react to Sergio Romero’s exclusion from Premier League squad
Romero deserves to be treated with the utmost respect from the club. He's been nothing but a top professional. I'm ashamed a club the size of @ManUtd have gone about this completely the wrong way

United used to be a club with values and morals. If a player wanted to go then it would be supported. If they weren’t good enough they were let go for a decent price. Now we sack managers days after winning the cup and treat not only Romero but Phil Jones so badly

Disgraceful treatment of a loyal player who performed everytime he wore the shirt.
His future was done when henderson was brought back so the least united couldve done was move him on respectfully instead they made a mess out of it….

Horrendous, meanwhile he has been a model professional and excelled when called upon.

Disgraceful.. Never once put a foot wrong or said a bad thing about us or our various managers in fact nearly everyone around him says what a nice person and great professional he is.. Yet we treat him like this..

I think most fans would be on Romero’s side. He has been an impeccable professional and doesn’t deserve this.
