Manchester United are ‘confident’ of signing Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger on a free transfer should they bring Thomas Tuchel in as manager, according to Football Insider.

The Blues currently find themselves in a bit of bother off the pitch after recent sanctions to Roman Abramovich.

The Red Devils appear to be keen on taking advantage when it comes to Rudiger and Tuchel, with an enquiry made for the Stamford Bridge boss.

United also seem to be after the Germany defender, who is out of contract in the summer, with Chelsea currently unable to offer him a new deal due to their off-field situation.

The Latest: Source drops Rudiger update

Football Insider shared an update on Friday evening after being informed by a United source who claimed that the club are ‘confident’ of signing the centre-back, should Tuchel move to Old Trafford, and are willing to meet Rudiger’s wage demands to make him a marquee signing.

A salary of more than £300,000 per week is mentioned in the report, with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich also keen.

The Verdict: Interesting…

There is no doubting that Rudiger would be a good signing for United on a free transfer. He now has plenty of Premier League experience and appears to be in the prime of his career after recently turning 29.

His wage demands could be a worry, though, with a £300,000-PER-week salary placing him in United’s top five earners.

This prospective deal could be one to watch along with a move for Tuchel, in what is expected to be a summer of change as Ralf Rangnick steps upstairs into a consultancy role.
