Manchester United have been linked with a move for AS Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo.

Zaniolo is primarily a right-winger who can also turn out as an attacking midfielder or second striker.

Labelled as ‘explosive’, the 22-year-old has contributed to 35 goals in 105 appearances for Roma since 2018.

The Italy international is currently in England ahead of Roma’s Europa Conference League semi-final with Leicester City, and it looks as if a permanent move to the Premier League could be on the cards over the coming months.

Sports Witness relayed an update from Calciomercato regarding Zaniolo on Tuesday.

They claimed that United are ‘monitoring’ Zaniolo ahead of a potential summer transfer, with Ralf Rangnick looking to build a ‘new and young’ side at Old Trafford.

The Verdict: Welcome gift for Ten Hag

Rangnick has confirmed he will move into a consultancy role when Erik ten Hag arrives at the club in the summer, so a move for Zaniolo could be a welcome gift for the Dutchman.

It looks as if Rangnick is keen on the Italian, and with United not having a senior right-winger available at this moment in time, Zaniolo could be a smart target as the Red Devils look to build for the future.

He can also occupy a central role and will be entering the final two years of his contract in the summer, so Roma could be willing to part ways, should the right offer arrive.
